The KNDS, a German military equipment company, has just unveiled the Leopard 2A8, the first tank built from the ground up in 30 years.

According to information from the Militarnyi portal, the presentation took place at KNDS facilities in Germany, an event described as pivotal in the renewal of armored forces.

The new tank is equipped with a modern active defense system and an advanced set of sensors to detect and neutralize threats.

However, before the vehicle enters production, the Leopard 2A8 will undergo a full cycle of field and service tests, according to the company.

Germany has ordered 123 units of the new Leopard 2A8 tank, which are expected to enter service between 2027 and 2030. The Leopard 2A8 is expected to become the main tank of the German army in the coming decades, replacing the 2A6 and 2A7 versions currently in service.

Lithuania, the Czech Republic, and the Netherlands also plan to acquire units under the framework contract. Participants in the program will receive fleets of interoperable tanks and simplified logistics and maintenance.
