Rolls-Royce Power Systems has secured a major contract to supply propulsion systems for the Puma armored vehicle used by the German Army.

The agreement provides for the delivery of around 200 units of the mtu PowerPack system, with deliveries scheduled to begin in 2028, reinforcing Germany’s military modernization plans.

Considered one of the largest orders ever received by the company, the contract includes updated versions of the system based on the mtu 10V 890 engine. The initiative is part of the Bundeswehr’s efforts to increase operational readiness and renew its fleet of armored vehicles.

The PowerPack combines the engine, transmission, and other components into a compact structure designed to operate in extreme conditions. Improvements include advances in the cooling system, new electronic components, and technologies aimed at hostile environments, such as dust filters.

Currently in service since 2013, the Puma is Germany’s main infantry fighting vehicle and is expected to gradually replace older models. To meet growing demand in the defense sector, Rolls-Royce has also announced an expansion of its industrial capacity, with new investments in production and workforce.
