The German Navy has received the first NH90 Sea Tiger helicopter, delivered by Airbus Helicopters through the NHIndustries joint venture.
The ceremony took place at the Nordholz naval base and marks the start of a program that plans the delivery of 31 aircraft by 2030, primarily intended for anti-surface and anti-submarine warfare missions.
The new Sea Tiger will gradually replace the older Sea Lynx Mk88A helicopters, in operation since 1981. The German naval force already operates 18 NH90 Sea Lion helicopters for transport and search and rescue missions, facilitating the operational and logistical transition to the new variant dedicated to naval combat.
Based on the NH90 NFH version, the Sea Tiger incorporates advanced systems such as a new electro-optical sensor, enhanced electronic support measures, dipping sonar, sonar buoys, and armaments including torpedoes and missiles.
According to Airbus, the systems have been extensively tested in the Mediterranean Sea and the North Sea, reinforcing the helicopter’s role as a key asset in Germany’s and NATO’s maritime defense.
