Police in Germany carried out an operation that resulted in the seizure of more than US$3 million in assets confiscated from the Hells Angels biker gang.

According to a report by the website Ride Apart, the case took place in the federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia, where 1,200 police officers were deployed across 28 cities in what the ministry described as one of the largest operations to combat motorcycle gang crime in Germany’s history.

Officers and Special Forces searched more than 50 homes and commercial premises belonging to members and supporters of the Hells Angels Motorcycle Club Leverkusen in the early hours of April 28, 2026. Motorcycles, cash and other items were seized.

The raids were carried out after investigations into suspects accused of, among other things, forming a criminal organization. As a result, the Hells Angels Motorcycle Club Leverkusen was banned and dissolved.

The Hells Angels had 29 chapters and 469 members in North Rhine-Westphalia, but those numbers were increasing significantly, according to the newspaper Neue Westfälische.

Recently, many members had defected from a rival gang called the Bandidos, making the Hells Angels the largest biker gang in the western German state, narrowly surpassing the Freeway Riders, which has 403 members across 37 chapters.
