Geely caught attention by testing the durability of the electric SUV EX5’s battery using a 36-ton war tank. In the experiment, the armored vehicle ran over the Aegis Gold Brick cell multiple times, which resisted without any explosions, leaks, or overheating.

The test exceeded by up to 80% the requirements of Chinese safety standards coming into effect in 2026, and the company went further by conducting 36 different tests on the battery, surpassing the 24 currently required.

The EX5 battery stands out due to its robust design, which includes a “sandwich” structure, energy-absorbing plates, and thermal and electrical insulation. It is coated with aluminum oxide, which helps contain heat and increases protection in case of impact.

According to Geely, the Galaxy line, which includes the EX5, has already sold nearly 1 million units globally without any reports of spontaneous fires.
