The new aircraft features modernization, sustainability, and fuel efficiency

Airbus offered a glimpse into the future of commercial aviation at the Airbus Summit 2025 in Toulouse. The company unveiled its vision for the next generation of single-aisle aircraft.

Airbus shared some details about the technologies it is developing for the aircraft of the future. The aircraft features new wings that mimic those of birds, making them lighter and longer. Additionally, it is equipped with an innovative jet engine, the RISE, which reduces fuel consumption by 20%.

The design and entire development of the wings took place at Airbus’ Wing Technology Development Centre in Filton, England.

The wings, besides generating more lift, will be foldable, allowing the new aircraft to use existing airport gates.

Airbus is also betting on hybridization, using lithium-ion or solid-state batteries to power systems such as air conditioning and lighting, further reducing fuel consumption.

Moreover, the company is using more advanced materials, such as thermoplastic polymer composites reinforced with carbon fiber, which are lighter, recyclable, and cheaper than current materials.
