Jonathan Perera transformed a Bluebird school bus into a luxurious motorhome, starting the project during the COVID pandemic.
The first step was to raise the roof by about 50 centimeters, which allowed for the removal of the original windows and the installation of new side panels. He also added external storage compartments for lithium batteries and an inverter, as well as solar panels on the roof providing 1,200 watts of energy. The vehicle even gained a rooftop deck, ideal for outdoor leisure.
The interior was designed to be functional and comfortable, with a layout that includes a spacious kitchen equipped with standard-size appliances and a wood stove. It also features a dining area for six people, a bathroom with a shower and toilet, and a queen-size bed at the back with storage underneath. Perera used the original emergency exit door to create external access to the storage compartment under the bed.
With a total cost of $175,000, Perera invested heavily to ensure the motorhome had the comfort of a real home. Although he acknowledges that similar conversions can be done for less money, he prioritized quality and functionality, creating a home that reflects his lifestyle and dedication to the project.
