The 35th Paratrooper Artillery Regiment of the French Army conducted, on October 18, its first live-fire demonstration of the anti-drone system PROTEUS at the Canjuers training area.

This is the first unit of the Army to operate the latest version of the equipment, the Standard 1, reinforcing the growing focus of the French forces on countering unmanned aerial threats.

The tests involved a 20mm automatic cannon with explosive ammunition, mounted on a TRM 2000 tactical truck and integrated with the SANDRA targeting system, which provides both day and night vision. This combination allows for the detection and tracking of drones flying at low altitudes in various conditions, enhancing the artillery’s response capabilities to small drones in combat.

PROTEUS operates as part of a multi-layered anti-drone network, working alongside the VAB ARLAD reconnaissance vehicle and NEROD jammers, offering both kinetic and electronic options to intercept airborne threats.

The trials reflect the French Army’s adaptation to new warfare technologies, inspired by lessons learned from recent conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East, where small drones have proven to be a threat to frontline and logistics units.
