Three fraudsters were convicted for an insurance scam involving an Aston Martin, which could have cost insurers $125,730.

Edwin White, 65, and Nicholas Ralph, 67, staged an accident to claim insurance money. In 2018, Ralph was driving a Peugeot 208 and collided with White’s Aston Martin, claiming the car swerved to avoid a pothole. However, investigations revealed that the Peugeot was not damaged in a way that supported this claim, and the Aston Martin, supposedly purchased in good condition, had significant internal damage.

Throughout the investigation, inconsistencies in both men’s claims emerged, such as White being unable to prove the $75,400 payment for the Aston Martin and Ralph and White being in contact before and after the accident.

Additionally, Ralph’s insurer, LV=, discovered a $53,855 invoice for car rentals and canceled Ralph’s policy, asking him to return the $7,930 he had received in compensation.

The fraud was uncovered through detailed investigations, including the analysis of phone calls and banking documents.

The fraud was referred to IFED in September, leading to the conviction of the fraudsters. Stuart Stevens, head of fraud intelligence at Direct Line Group, stated that the company is committed to fighting fraud and that this case serves as a warning to others attempting to commit insurance fraud. He emphasized that the severe sentences send a clear message that insurance fraud is not a victimless crime and that strict measures will be taken against those responsible.
