Formula E will introduce a new express recharge technology called Pit Boost, which will allow a 30-second stop during pit stops to increase the energy charge of the cars by 10%.
This innovation aims to speed up recharging, which could change the dynamics of the races, as the energy transfer, which would normally take several minutes, will be done in just half a minute.
The technology will be tested at the E-Prix in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, in February 2025. Express recharging will be mandatory for all teams, but its use will be strategic, allowed only when the car’s battery level is between 40% and 60%.
The Pit Boost is a recharge made by a 600 kW charging station, transferring about 3.85 kWh to the vehicle. Developed over three years, this technology has the potential to be applied to commercial vehicles in the future, aiming to improve the efficiency of fast recharges.
The use of Pit Boost will be announced three weeks before each race, with one car passing through the process at a time, and up to three professionals present.
