The destruction occurred 589 kilometers from the contact line at the Akhtubinsk airfield, where the latest Russian Su-57 fighter jets are stationed.

The airfield is part of the 929th State Flight Test Center of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, where new aircraft systems, airborne radars, and weapons are tested.

There is a high probability that the aircraft hit is not a serial Su-57 fighter jet but rather the third or ninth flight prototype, the T-50, used by the test center.

According to annually published photographs of the airfield, the aircraft “053” and “510” were based there, used as flying laboratories. The center uses these aircraft to perform integration work, testing new radar equipment, weapons, and other systems.

Serial Su-57 fighter jets are used as carriers of Kh-69 cruise missiles, recently employed more actively against Ukraine. The destruction of one of these carriers will reduce the overall intensity of their use.

Currently, the Russian Air Force has 22 serial Su-57 aircraft, which are actively used against Ukraine.

The Kh-69 cruise missile is an analogue of the Franco-British Storm Shadow/SCALP-EG, with a small effective dispersion area, making it difficult to detect by radar. The missile’s maximum range can exceed 500 km.

Earlier, the Militarnyi website reported that two Russian MiG-31 fighter jets were destroyed during a large-scale combined attack on May 14-15 in temporarily occupied Crimea.
