Bentley has introduced an innovation in paint customization, applying for the first time its exclusive “Ombré by Mulliner” technique to a four-door sedan. The chosen model is the Flying Spur, which will officially debut this weekend at the Southampton International Boat Show in the United Kingdom.

Handcrafted painting technology

The Ombré finish is characterized by the gradual transition between two distinct colors along the body and roof, the result of a 100% manual process carried out by Bentley’s Paint Shop artisans in Crewe, England.

On the Flying Spur showcased in Southampton, the paint starts with vibrant Topaz Blue at the front and transforms into the darker Windsor Blue at the rear, with the blend occurring smoothly in the central section of the car — doors, sills, and roof.

According to the brand, the process requires nearly 60 hours of artisanal work by two highly skilled technicians, who apply each layer in stages until achieving a perfectly symmetrical and seamless transition.

Customization options

In addition to the Topaz Blue/Windsor Blue combination, Bentley offers two more color pairings:

– Sunburst Gold/Orange Flame
– Tungsten/Onyx

New combinations are expected to be made available in the future. Each selection is carefully chosen to avoid the creation of an unwanted third intermediate color during the blending process.

The complexity of the work ensures that each car is unique, as technicians adjust the application in real time according to the paint’s reaction.

Debut and exclusivity

The Flying Spur with Ombré paint follows in the footsteps of the Continental GT, the first model to receive the technique, revealed in August during Monterey Car Week.

Now, the luxury sedan reinforces Bentley’s commitment to bespoke personalization and the tradition of combining innovation and refined craftsmanship in its vehicles.
