Recent reports indicate that a U.S. Air Force F-16 fighter jet was struck by an unidentified flying object (UFO) during a training flight in Arizona in January 2023.

The impact damaged the pilot’s cockpit and temporarily grounded the jet. This incident is just one of several reports of mysterious objects, often described as drones, flying over military zones in the region, particularly near the Mexican border. Three other similar encounters were recorded in the days following the crash.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), all sightings reported by pilots are documented and, when confirmed by radar data, forwarded to the Department of Defense’s All-Domain Anomaly Resolution Office. Between May 2023 and June 2024, 757 reports of unidentified aerial phenomena were recorded, most of them in flight, but only a small number of cases were closed. The observed objects often appear in groups, flying at high altitude in military training areas, raising national security concerns.

U.S. authorities believe some of these objects may be linked to the actions of foreign cartels that use drones for espionage and drug trafficking, taking advantage of advanced and hard-to-track technologies.

With virtually unlimited financial resources, these criminal groups are reportedly using innovative equipment as part of their strategy to evade surveillance and continue their illegal operations in the United States.
