The United States Air Force has expanded its fleet of advanced fighters with the delivery of the new F-15EX to the 142nd Wing of the Oregon Air National Guard.
The aircraft, designated EX15, is the eighth model received by the unit and represents another step in the program that foresees the acquisition of 129 jets to replace the aging F-15C/Ds. According to Boeing, the delivery of the new fighter symbolizes the collaboration between production, testing, logistics teams, and the Air Guard.
The F-15EX incorporates major advancements over the F-15E, including structural reinforcements, modern avionics, enhanced flight-control systems, and an advanced electronic warfare suite. With the ability to carry up to 13,300 kilograms of payload and up to 12 AMRAAM missiles, the model offers greater range, speed, and operational flexibility, capable of performing both air-to-air and air-to-ground missions with extended persistence.
The 142nd Wing was the first operational unit to receive the new fighter and continues to expand its fleet as the Air Force progresses in transitioning other bases to the model. The F-15EX is expected to operate as a complement to the F-35A, strengthening homeland defense missions, heavy weapons transport, and rapid response to modern threats.
According to military leaders, the jet ensures the combination of readiness, range, and payload capacity needed in the face of increasingly sophisticated rival air forces.
