Volvo officially revealed the ES90, a sedan with SUV characteristics, but also took the opportunity to preview the EX60.

The electric crossover briefly appeared in the presentation video. The EX60’s design follows the visual identity of the EX30, ES90, and EX90 models, with a vertical rear and taillights that wrap around the rear glass, similar to the electric minivan EM90 sold in China.

The EX60 will be the first production model to use the SPA3 platform, an evolution of the SPA2, which already equips the ES90 and EX90 models. This new technological base was exclusively designed for electric vehicles, eliminating the constraints of combustion engines and allowing for more flexibility in manufacturing models smaller than the EX30 or larger than the EX90. According to Anders Bell, Volvo’s head of engineering, the SPA3 was developed entirely by the brand, with no influence from the parent company Geely.

In addition to the EX60, which had already been announced in September, Volvo is preparing two other models based on the SPA3 platform.

The crossover will begin its prototype testing later this year and is expected to launch in 2026. It will replace the combustion-powered XC60, one of Volvo’s best-selling cars in recent years.
