Elon Musk has dispatched Tesla Cybertrucks to areas affected by wildfires in Los Angeles, USA.
The vehicles are being used as battery banks and Starlink internet terminals for regions lacking connectivity. The first units arrived on Saturday and were deployed to the Altadena station of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
Musk announced that more vehicles would be sent to support areas impacted by the wildfires, which have already destroyed over 40,000 acres and claimed at least 24 lives. The entrepreneur apologized to California customers waiting for Cybertruck deliveries, explaining that the vehicles are being used as mobile base stations to provide power and internet connectivity.
Starlink, his satellite internet company, also announced that it would offer free service to wildfire victims, though new users without the necessary equipment would need to pay approximately $350 for the hardware.
The initiative has been compared to similar actions by Starlink during previous disasters, such as Hurricane Helene, when the company provided a free trial period. Although presented as humanitarian aid, the offer reflects standard strategies for testing new customers, with a transition to a paid subscription after 30 days.
