Ukraine – A self-propelled anti-aircraft gun (SPAAG) Cheetah, the Dutch-modified version of the famous German Gepard, has been officially registered in operation with the 1027th Anti-Aircraft Missile Artillery Regiment (ZRAp) of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The system’s presence was only publicly confirmed in June 2024, marking the first time the Dutch variant has been seen in active service in the country. Equipped with two 35mm Oerlikon KDA automatic cannons and an advanced radar and fire-control system unique to the Netherlands, the Cheetah offers enhanced short-range air defense capability.

Although originally developed during the Cold War to counter low-altitude threats, the Cheetah remains an effective platform against drones, cruise missiles, helicopters, and even light vehicles—persistent threats in today’s combat scenarios in Ukraine.
The arrival of these vehicles in Ukraine is part of an international effort: the United States and Germany acquired up to 60 stored units from Jordan, with at least 15 of these systems directly funded by Germany to bolster Ukrainian defenses.
