A truck driver was rescued after spending five hours with his truck hanging 30 meters high on a highway in West Virginia, USA.

The incident occurred early on Tuesday morning (2nd), according to reports from local media outlets.

The road was covered in snow and became extremely slippery, causing the driver to lose control. The accident left the truck’s cabin suspended about 30 meters on the side of US Route 35.

At around 6:25 AM, teams from the Hurricane Fire Department were called to the rescue in Mason County. They quickly mobilized to close the highway and remove the driver, who was inside the hanging cabin.

According to local emergency services, technicians from several response departments implemented three rope systems using two heavy-duty tow trucks, one serving as an anchor on the bridge and the other to secure the hanging truck and prevent it from falling to the ground.

The teams strategically positioned the emergency vehicles to allow for a complex rope rescue and managed to lower a rescuer to save the driver from the risky situation.

Volunteer firefighter Westley Quinn from the Hurricane Fire Department was able to access the truck’s cabin, where he secured the driver with a seatbelt.

After being suspended for approximately five hours on the highway bridge, the driver was hoisted back to safety, without serious injuries.
