QinetiQ GmbH successfully installed a newly updated surveillance and communications package on the Multi-Role Platform (MPP) Diamond Aircraft DA62.
According to UK Defence Journal, the update, completed in Wiener Neustadt, Austria, includes new communication equipment, a high-resolution electro-optical camera, and a secure real-time data link.
This equipment allows the Diamond DA62 to be prepared for intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) missions, transmitting data and live video feeds to ground stations.
The company stated that the work was carried out jointly by teams from QinetiQ GmbH and Diamond Aircraft, who performed the installation, calibration, and testing to ensure the new sensor payload could operate effectively with the aircraft’s avionics and communications package.
“This is a significant achievement, highlighting the platform’s role as one of the most capable and flexible surveillance aircraft in its class and in our fleet,” said Mathias Mensing, Head of Program Management at QinetiQ GmbH.
“Combining the efficiency and range of the DA62MPP with modern sensors and data links provides operators with a powerful tool for real-time intelligence gathering.”
Meanwhile, Diamond Aircraft Industries emphasized that the project modernized an already operational platform while maintaining its safety and certification standards.
“By modernizing an already operational MPP platform, we not only enhance its capabilities but also preserve its full airworthiness, safety, and configuration integrity,” said Julian Prikril, Project Management Team Lead at Diamond Aircraft Industries.
