Denmark and Canada have signed a new defense cooperation agreement, Denmark’s official representation in Canada revealed on Saturday (14).

According to Naval News, the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on defense cooperation between Canada and Denmark was signed last Friday (13) in Munich, Germany, during an event attended by officials from both countries.

The agreement was signed by Denmark’s Minister of Defense, Troels Lund Poulsen, together with his colleagues Sirið Stenberg, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Culture of the Faroe Islands, and Vivian Motzfeldt, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Research of Greenland.

The event was also attended by David J. McGuinty, Canada’s Minister of National Defence, representing the country.

The agreement aims to strengthen cooperation between the Kingdom of Denmark and Canada across several areas, including defense innovation, technology, capacity building, as well as training, exercises, and education.

“I am pleased that we can be here today — Denmark, the Faroe Islands, and Greenland — united in signing a defense cooperation agreement with Canada that strengthens our collective security,” Poulsen said.

“We need our friends, and we share Canada’s desire to strengthen transatlantic ties and jointly address future challenges.”
