The Kombi Split Screen, one of the most luxurious models produced by Volkswagen, has been turned into a floating boat complete with a slide and a barbecue grill.
The project was developed through a partnership between the Brazilian companies Procópio Luxury Vehicles, specialists in vehicle customization, and Fluvimar, which works in aluminum boat construction.
Nicknamed Kombi Boat, the boat is a faithful replica of the Type 2 Split Screen (also known as Split Window) from 1973, famous for its split windshield.
To become a functional boat, the van was mounted on a platform with three metal pontoons. Although it is a water vehicle, the Kombi still keeps the wheels and tires to imitate the original vehicle.
The vessel, which can hold 19 passengers, also features a slide, sound system, smoke machine, laser beam, barbecue grill, and space for cold drinks.
“A powerful audio and video system was installed, USB ports, bathroom, portable minibar, stainless steel barbecue grill, removable canopy, DJ table, water slide, and outdoor shower,” explained Kennedy Silva, commercial director of Procópio, according to the website UOL.
The Kombi Boat took one and a half years to complete, and the project involved creating molds, tools, and specific matrices. The investment is estimated to be around US$ 218,000.
The model will be sold by order starting in September, according to its creators, who expect to sell two units per year.
“The target audience is mainly those passionate about boating and the style of the Kombi,” Silva explained. “The buyer of one unit can use it for rental and to promote tours. The vessel is highly photographed and filmed wherever it goes.”
