The Colombian Army has strengthened its armored fleet with the incorporation of 11 M1117 Guardian ASV vehicles, bringing the total number of units in operation in the country to 156 as part of the force’s modernization program.

In addition, Colombia received another 33 M1117 vehicles donated by the United States through a bilateral cooperation agreement aimed at missions in regions considered priorities.

According to the institution, the new vehicles will be deployed in areas classified as having high operational complexity, where the presence of armed groups, drug trafficking, and organized crime requires greater troop protection, mobility, and response capability. The objective is to strengthen territorial control and ensure greater security for the civilian population during ongoing operations.

The M1117 Guardian is equipped with multilayer armor, day and night vision systems, and the ability to operate in both urban and rural areas. These features allow its use in patrols, convoy escorts, and missions across varied terrain and under different threat levels, providing greater safety for onboard crews.

According to the commander of the Colombian Army, Major General Royer Gómez Herrera, the arrival of the armored vehicles is part of the strengthening of cooperation with the United States. The donated vehicles are expected to be assigned especially to the regions of Cauca, Catatumbo, and Arauca, contributing to the stabilization of these areas and the protection of local communities.
