Chinese manufacturer Sichuan Tengden Sci-Tech successfully tested a transport drone capable of dropping 1.2 tons of cargo via parachute.
The trial took place at Lantian airfield in Jigong, where the unmanned aircraft dropped three containers from 300 meters, all landing within 100 meters of the target. The result highlights the drone’s potential use in hard-to-reach areas.
With a wingspan of 20 meters and a maximum payload of 1.2 tons, the drone can fly over 600 km fully loaded and reach altitudes of up to 10,000 meters. It features a modular compartment allowing both conventional cargo transport and aerial drops, and it can operate in all weather conditions and at any time of day.
Although presented as a commercial product also intended for rescue operations, the model draws interest for its military potential. It could support troops in the field, carry out aerial mining missions, and even transport attack drones, serving as a safer alternative to conventional aircraft in wartime scenarios.
The project is still in its early stages, taking only 34 days from the maiden flight to the drop test.
