China showcased the Z-20T assault helicopter in flight demonstrations at the 7th Helicopter Expo in Tianjin, marking its first public display since the military parade on September 3.

Developed by AVIC (Aviation Industry Corporation of China), the model combines troop transport and firepower in a single multifunctional platform, designed for operations in varied terrain and adverse weather conditions.

During the event, the Z-20T performed maneuvers demonstrating its agility and stability, such as hovering turns and precise landings. According to Zhu Minfeng, Deputy Chief Designer at AVIC, the helicopter was designed for air assault and transport missions in mountainous, forested, and urban areas, capable of attacking strategic targets and providing fire support to ground forces. He also highlighted the presence of advanced technologies, such as fly-by-wire flight control, high-performance turbo-shaft engines, and anti-icing systems, allowing for operation in extreme environments.

Equipped with weather radar, anti-collision sensors, and night vision, the Z-20T offers enhanced situational awareness for low-altitude flights. Zhu explained that the model complements the Z-10 attack helicopter, capable of both transport and direct attacks without the need for escort.

Although it is a Chinese project, the Z-20T bears visual similarities to the American Sikorsky S-70, the base for the UH-60 Black Hawk, which has caught the attention of analysts and international observers.
