The intensification of China’s military presence near Taiwan drew renewed attention following a new episode recorded on March 29.

According to Taiwanese authorities, 19 Chinese military aircraft and 9 ships were detected operating around the island in a single day, highlighting the high level of activity in the region.

In addition to fighter jets and warships, two Chinese government vessels were also identified, expanding the scope of the operation. During the incursions, aircraft crossed the median line of the Taiwan Strait multiple times and entered the Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ), prompting Taiwan to deploy air, naval, and coastal missile systems to monitor the situation.

Such movements have become routine and are interpreted as Beijing’s strategy to pressure Taiwan. In recent years, China has significantly increased its military presence in the Indo-Pacific, both in frequency and geographic reach, consolidating a more assertive posture in the region.

Recent data show that 2025 recorded record levels of activity, including thousands of air incursions into Taiwan’s ADIZ. Analysts also highlight unprecedented operations, such as the simultaneous deployment of two aircraft carrier groups in the Pacific, as well as a gradual shift of military focus toward the South China Sea. In total, there were 3,764 entries of Chinese aircraft into Taiwan’s airspace, a significant 22.4% increase compared to the previous year.
