The U.S. government has authorized the sale of military vehicles to Canada in a deal worth approximately $160 million.
The agreement includes the supply of up to 60 Joint Light Tactical Vehicles (JLTVs), nine cargo trailers, and a range of additional equipment such as communication systems, spare parts, special tools, and technical support.
According to the Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA), the acquisition will strengthen the Canadian Armed Forces’ ability to address current and future threats, as well as expand their operations in complex environments and international missions. The agency emphasized that Canada, a NATO ally, plays a key role in military, humanitarian, and peacekeeping operations worldwide.
The responsible manufacturer will be AM General, based in Michigan and Indiana, and the implementation of the contract is expected to last up to six years, involving visits from technical teams and U.S. government representatives to Canada.
According to the DSCA, the operation will not alter the military balance in the region and should be absorbed without difficulty by the Canadian forces.
