BYD started 2025 with impressive growth, recording sales of 300,538 vehicles in January, a 47.5% increase compared to the same period last year.

Exports were the highlight, rising by 83.3% to a record 66,336 units shipped to international markets. Despite the growth of battery electric vehicles (BEVs), which increased by 19.1%, their share of total sales dropped to 42.3%. Meanwhile, plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEVs) saw a significant rise of 78.7%, driven by the new generation DM-i system, which enhances energy efficiency.

BYD’s global expansion has been a key factor in its growth, with new factories being inaugurated in different countries. Currently, all models sold abroad are exported from China, but this is expected to change with local production in countries such as Thailand, Brazil, Turkey, Indonesia, and Hungary.

The company is betting on diversifying its lineup, operating different brands to cater to various audiences, from affordable models to luxury and off-road vehicles, such as those from Yangwang, Denza, and Fang Cheng Bao.

Despite the positive numbers, BYD’s January sales were 41.8% lower than in December 2024, reflecting the Chinese New Year holiday, which slowed commercial activity in the last week of the month. Even so, the company remains the leader in the electrified vehicle segment, benefiting from growing global demand and its diversification strategy.

With new technologies, innovative models, and the expansion of international production, BYD is well-positioned to maintain its strong growth momentum in 2025.
