The Yangwang U9 Xtreme, BYD’s electric supercar, has set a new speed record at the Nürburgring Nordschleife racetrack in Germany.
The model had already earned the title of the world’s fastest supercar after reaching 496.22 km/h at the ATP Papenburg circuit in Germany.
Now, BYD’s electric car has completed the Nürburgring Nordschleife racetrack, better known as the “Green Hell,” in just 6 minutes and 59 seconds.
With this achievement, the Yangwang U9 Xtreme became the first electric car to complete a lap in under seven minutes. “We are dedicated to pushing the boundaries of what’s possible through technology, and Nürburgring is a legendary challenge for cars and drivers,” said Stella Li, Global Executive Vice President and CEO of BYD for the Americas and Europe.

The supercar was driven by Moritz Frankz, a German driver with extensive experience in GT competitions and over 10,000 hours on the circuit.
According to him, the Nürburgring Nordschleife is “the most demanding track in the world,” and the accomplishment is “a testament to the development capabilities of BYD and Yangwang.”
It is worth noting that the Yangwang U9 Xtreme received some modifications to achieve the feat, including a new cooling system, titanium-alloy brakes with carbon-ceramic discs, and custom tires.
“It’s natural for our engineers to pursue their dreams there, and I congratulate the entire team for this extraordinary achievement. The limited edition of the U9 Xtreme has proven not only to be the world’s fastest car in a straight line but also a vehicle with exceptional performance and dynamics, capable of breaking records on a circuit full of curves and variations,” added Li.
