The Team LionStrike consortium has announced the inclusion of the Chevrolet Silverado HD pickup truck in its proposal for the Land Mobility Programme (LMP), a UK Ministry of Defence initiative aimed at renewing the British Army’s light vehicle fleet.
The team is formed by GM Defense, BAE Systems and NP Aerospace. According to the group, the Silverado HD was chosen because it uses an already established commercial platform, which could help reduce costs and accelerate deliveries.
The version presented uses a 6.6-litre Duramax V8 turbodiesel engine and offers high payload and towing capacity. The consortium says the vehicle can carry NATO-standard pallets and allow equipment to be operated inside the cabin while on the move.
The Silverado HD joins other models already offered by Team LionStrike, including the Infantry Squad Vehicle (ISV), used by the United States and Canadian armies, and the Silverado LD equipped with a 3-litre turbodiesel engine.
The Land Mobility Programme is considered one of the British Army’s main current land fleet renewal projects. The initiative seeks to replace older vehicles, including Land Rover and Pinzgauer models in different configurations, with more modern and versatile platforms.
According to Gilbert Nelson, vice president of international sales and marketing at GM Defense, the proposal focuses on the use of ready-made commercial technologies to reduce costs and accelerate deliveries to the British Army.
