British aircraft carrier conducts live-fire exercise in the North Sea
The crew of HMS Prince of Wales conducted small arms practice.
The stealth jets F-35 Lightning recently embarked on the HMS Prince of Wales as the aircraft carrier prepares to join NATO allies in their largest exercise in decades.
For the first time, the 65,000-ton ship will host the UK Carrier Strike Group’s battle staff as it takes a central role in Exercise Steadfast Defender.

According to a statement from the Royal Navy:
“The RAF’s joint F-35s and Royal Navy Squadron 617, ‘the Dambusters’, landed on the carrier as she sailed in the North Sea after leaving her home base of RAF Marham, in Norfolk. The jets are just one element of the mighty UK Carrier Strike Group, which also includes 11 helicopters deployed across the group, Royal Navy escort ships, and Royal Fleet Auxiliary support ships, including the frigate HMS Portland and tanker RFA Tidesurge.
It will lead an international task force taking part in Steadfast Defender – an exercise across multiple regions and domains, from land and sea to air and space. Over several months and thousands of miles, it will see tens of thousands of troops working together to demonstrate NATO’s ability to deter enemies and defend allied territory.”
