BMW is launching a training program that will teach drivers how to properly drive armored cars and avoid threats such as pursuits and explosions.

The Security Vehicle Training program will take place at the former Soviet air force base in Groß Dölln, Berlin, Germany. In 2002, the base was transformed into a driving center, the same location where police and emergency services are trained.

BMW says the program is designed for real-world professional drivers “who wish to enhance their skills in handling special protection vehicles to be perfectly prepared for extreme situations.”

In addition to including a course on basic driving notions and tactical knowledge, the lessons also teach evasive maneuvers, emergency braking, and how to handle fire explosions on a winding road in the forest while driving a heavy car.

This is particularly important as armored cars like the 7 Series Protection are much heavier than standard models, so they have different driving dynamics that students must learn.
