BMW informed its dealers that customers will not need to pay the inflated prices after the Donald Trump administration imposed tariffs on cars made in Mexico.
Until May 1, BMW will cover the costs of tariffs on cars made in Mexico. The Trump administration imposed tariffs on the 2-Series, 2-Series Coupé, and 3-Series Sedan models.
The German automaker is among the top sellers of vehicles in the U.S. imported from Mexican factories, which are now subject to a 25% tariff. This measure is meant to protect the prices of imported models.
“However, if the tariff situation remains as it is, we may need to reassess after this period,” a spokesperson told the Wall Street Journal.

BMW imports the 3-Series Sedan, 2-Series Coupé, and M2 models from its factory in San Luis Potosí, Mexico. According to the newspaper, these models account for about 12% of BMW’s sales in the U.S.
The three vehicles are subject to tariffs because they do not meet the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement rule requiring most parts to be made in the region to avoid additional taxes.
