
BLADE has been selected by the United States Army to take part in Project Sustainment, an initiative focused on developing autonomous solutions for transporting supplies in combat zones.
The company is one of five partners selected for the program, coordinated by the National Advanced Mobility Consortium (NAMC), which seeks to reduce the risks faced by military personnel during resupply missions in environments where logistics lines are constantly threatened by enemy attacks.
As its proposal for the project, the company introduced the Dire WOLF, a six-wheeled unmanned ground vehicle with a diesel-electric hybrid powertrain. Derived from the WOLF-X robotic platform, the vehicle was designed to transport cargo without the need for a driver, drawing on the company’s more than two decades of experience developing autonomous vehicles. The technology also builds on the operational record of the Hunter WOLF, a model already used by military forces in the United States, Australia, and Ukraine.

The Dire WOLF was designed to operate across difficult terrain and in highly hostile environments. Its main features include pivot steering, which allows the vehicle to turn around its own axis, the ability to overcome obstacles such as steep slopes, wide gaps, and steps up to 60 centimeters high, as well as airless Michelin Tweel tires, which eliminate the risk of punctures caused by shrapnel, debris, or gunfire during operations.
For the U.S. Army, the automation of logistics will be a decisive factor in future high-intensity conflicts against technologically advanced adversaries. Project Sustainment was created specifically to accelerate the development of these solutions through a more agile procurement model, allowing innovative companies to work alongside major defense industry suppliers to make troop resupply safer, more efficient, and more resilient.
