Owner claims swingarm of a Triumph Speed 400 broke after 4 days of use

Triumph Motorcycles recently launched its most affordable single-cylinder motorcycles in India: the Speed 400 and the Scrambler 400X. These motorcycles have started arriving at dealerships across the country, and deliveries have also commenced.
A few months after the launch, an incident emerged where the swingarm of a Triumph Speed 400 split into two after a minor slip. Images of the cracked swingarm have surfaced on the internet and gone viral.

The images were posted by Abhinav Sood, who operates a motorcycle rental company. He shared the image of his motorcycle along with the broken swingarm, captioning:

“A minor slip… Swingarm split in 2… Replacement to take over a month! What’s the point of selling bikes when there’s hardly any stock of parts across India? I have a list of 15-20 items needed, and all I can get is 2. I have 8 Triumphs used for commercial purposes. Took 2 months to get a handlebar for Speed! With over 130 bikes and 10 years of experience, this is the first time I’m seeing this. Wondering how it will behave off-roads… Surely it will split into several pieces! Please, Triumph Motorcycles India, enlighten us on what will be done?”

To make matters worse, the bike was only 4 days old and had covered approximately 593 km. The Triumph Speed 400, a new motorcycle, is facing reported quality issues – a problem compounded by the unavailability of spare parts. To repair the swingarm, the customer will have to wait a month.

Response from Bajaj-Triumph:

The incident related to the said customer was brought to our attention by our service center. After our internal investigation, it was noted that there was damage to the bike that seems to have been caused by a serious accident due to not noticing black ice, resulting in extensive damage to 10+ parts. Rider safety is guaranteed and is of utmost importance at Triumph. The service center further confirmed that the necessary spare parts are being dispatched urgently to ensure the vehicle is fit to run as soon as possible. All necessary support is being offered to the customer. Any claim of parts unavailability is false.
