On Thursday night, an attack mission against the Houthis in western Yemen was carried out by B-2A bombers from the 13th Bomb Squadron, stationed at Whiteman Air Force Base, Missouri.

Each bomber was equipped with “Mark-84” 2,000-pound bombs, fitted with JDAM (Joint Direct Attack Munition) kits to increase the precision of the strikes.

Before this mission, it is believed that the last combat operation of the B-2 “Spirit” strategic bomber took place on January 18, 2017, during a bombing of an ISIS training camp near the coastal city of Sirte, Libya.

This operation was conducted on the last day of Barack Obama’s presidency and involved two B-2As from the 509th Bomb Wing, flying for over 30 hours from Whiteman Air Force Base to Libya.

During the mission, around 108 500-pound bombs, also equipped with JDAM kits, were dropped on the training camp, resulting in the death of at least 80 ISIS militants.

Tonight’s mission marks the return of the B-2 “Spirit” to combat, once again demonstrating its strategic and stealth capabilities in complex military operations.
