An autonomous dump truck developed by KAMAZ has begun testing at a granite quarry located in the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR), in eastern Ukraine.
According to information released by the official channel of the region’s head, Denis Pushilin, the trials are being conducted at the Karan quarry. During this phase, the vehicle is performing production tasks on an experimental basis, following parameters previously defined by an operator.
Driverless operation
The truck was designed to operate without a driver. Cameras installed around the vehicle’s structure continuously monitor the surrounding environment and transmit data to the onboard computer. The system processes the information using five distinct neural networks responsible for defining routes, analyzing obstacles, and establishing the operational algorithm.
According to the developers, this represents an unprecedented technological solution in Russia within the heavy industrial transport segment.

The implementation of this type of technology in industrial enterprises and road infrastructure projects could help increase productivity and speed of task execution in environments such as quarries and open-pit mines.
