Australia has signed a $163 million contract lasting seven years to ensure the maintenance and modernization of the Anzac-class frigates, pillars of its surface naval force.

The agreement was awarded to “BAE Systems Australia – Maritime“, in partnership with the British company BMT, consolidating both as responsible for the technical support and evolution of the ships.

The program, named DSC-West, will be carried out primarily at the Henderson shipyard in Perth, considered the historic center of operations involving the Anzac class. In addition, the project will be supported by teams distributed across cities such as Melbourne and Sydney, expanding the national reach of activities.

The selection of the companies reflects decades of accumulated experience. BAE Systems was responsible for building the frigates and for major modernization programs, while BMT strengthened its technical capability after incorporating Australian Maritime Technologies, linked to the original ship design.

Even with fleet renewal plans, including submarines under the AUKUS program and future Hunter-class frigates, Australia continues to invest in the Anzac class to maintain operational readiness. The vessels continue to play a strategic role in the country’s maritime defense, ensuring capability until new assets arrive.
