Audi Sport has announced the sale of some of its most advanced race cars, including the R18 LMP1 Hybrid and the RS5 DTM.

These models marked an era in motorsport where technology was pushed to the extreme, but the costs made these categories unsustainable. Now, Audi aims to offer these vehicles to a select group of customers, also ensuring full technical support for operation and maintenance.

The first available R18, chassis #207, won the 6 Hours of Spa in 2012 and delivered a solid performance in the World Endurance Championship. The RS5 DTM, with its 2.0 turbo engine and extreme aerodynamics, easily outpaced GT3 cars on the track and won the DTM finale at Hockenheim in 2015.

Although these cars are more than a decade old, their technology still impresses, surpassed only by current Formula 1 models. The R18 E-Tron, for example, was an all-wheel-drive diesel hybrid that dominated Le Mans between 2012 and 2014 and is still faster than the current Hypercars in the category.

Due to their complexity, operating one of these cars without Audi’s support would be a major challenge. For buyers, the automaker will offer technical inspections, spare parts, and support during events, ensuring that these machines remain operational.

Audi’s initiative follows the example of brands like Ferrari and McLaren, which have similar programs for historic race cars. However, this is the first time a top-level LMP1 Hybrid has been made available to the public. Despite the high ownership and maintenance costs, the opportunity to drive one of these engineering icons is rare and exclusive.
