Alfa Romeo has changed its plans to become a fully electric brand in North America by 2027. Now, the Italian automaker will adopt a “multi-energy” strategy, offering gasoline, electric, and plug-in hybrid options.

According to Chris Feuell, head of the brand in North America, requiring dealerships to only sell electric vehicles in a few years would be unfeasible, especially considering the 19% drop in sales in the U.S. last year, totaling only 8,865 units.

The STLA Large platform will serve as the basis for upcoming models, such as the replacements for the Giulia and Stelvio, which will be available in gasoline and electric versions. Additionally, a new SUV will be launched soon, followed by a sedan in 2026.

To deal with the excess stock of 2024 vehicles, the brand plans discounts and a leasing offer of $399 for the gasoline-powered Tonale. Alfa is also considering bringing the Junior crossover, sold in Europe with hybrid and electric options, to the North American market.

On the other hand, Alfa Romeo is developing a new supercar inspired by the 33 Stradale, which will arrive in 2026. Although the previous model was announced as the last with a combustion engine, the relaxation of the electric goals opens the door for a gasoline version. Thus, the brand is adjusting its strategy to better meet market needs and consumer desires.
