A Toyota is preparing a racing Supra equipped with a naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V8 engine, the same one used in the Lexus RC F.
The new model, developed in-house, will compete in the Repco Supercars Championship starting in 2026, replacing the inline-six engine currently used in its road and track versions.
The V8 2UR-GSE engine, which will be installed in the racing Supra, is already known in other Toyota models and was also used in the Hilux that won the Dakar Rally in 2019. Toyota’s entry into the championship marks a new phase, with the team competing against the Ford Mustang and its 5.4-liter Coyote engine.
Toyota plans to participate in the championship for at least five years, under the Gen3 rules introduced in 2023. The Walkinshaw Andretti United team will be one of those using the V8 Supra, with Chaz Mostert and Ryan Wood already confirmed as drivers.
