In this stage, personnel from the Southern and Central military districts will train to acquire special training warheads for the Iskander operational-tactical missile systems, load the launchers with these warheads, and covertly advance to the designated areas for electronic missile launches.

Military personnel from the Russian Aerospace Forces units involved will train in loading aircraft with special warheads to conduct sorties to designated patrol areas.

This stage aims to maintain the readiness of Russian military personnel and equipment of non-strategic nuclear units to perform the assigned missions.

The first and second stages of the non-strategic nuclear forces involved drills from the Southern and Leningrad military districts, Aerospace Forces, and Navy to test their readiness to use non-strategic nuclear weapons.

Russia’s Nuclear Power

Russia possesses one of the largest nuclear arsenals in the world, with approximately 6,375 nuclear warheads, of which about 1,600 are deployed on intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs), submarine-launched ballistic missiles (SLBMs), and strategic bombers. Additionally, Russia has around 2,000 tactical or non-strategic nuclear weapons, including short-range missiles, gravity bombs, and nuclear torpedoes.

The Iskander missile system, in particular, is a crucial component of Russia’s non-strategic arsenal, capable of launching both ballistic and cruise missiles with precision and effectiveness. These missiles can be armed with conventional or nuclear warheads, making them a versatile tool for deterrence and tactical operations.

With a well-established defense infrastructure and continuous military exercises, Russia maintains a high operational readiness of its nuclear forces, ensuring their capability to respond quickly and effectively to any potential threat.
