BAE Systems has signed a contract to supply two Bofors 40Mk4 naval gun systems to the Brazilian Navy.
The acquisition is part of the Patrol Vessel Construction Project (PRONAPA), an initiative aimed at modernizing the operational capabilities of Brazil’s naval force. The agreement strengthens the British company’s presence in the Latin American market and expands its existing partnership with Brazil.
The Bofors 40Mk4 is a compact and lightweight weapon developed for air defense missions, counter-drone operations and engagements against surface vessels. One of the system’s main advantages is its ability to switch rapidly between different types of ammunition, enabling it to respond efficiently to threats from the air, sea and land.
Another highlight is the programmable 3P ammunition, which can be configured in six different operating modes.
This technology increases the weapon’s flexibility in combat, making it capable of engaging a wide range of targets, including missiles, helicopters, drones, fast boats and land-based positions with greater precision and effectiveness.
According to Stefan Löfström, marketing and sales director at BAE Systems Bofors, the supply of the new guns demonstrates the company’s confidence in the Latin American market and ensures that the Brazilian Navy has access to a modern solution with high firepower and rapid response capability.
Brazil already operates dozens of 40 mm Bofors guns, ensuring the continued use of this family of weapons in its arsenal.
