Ukraine has released images of a squadron consisting of at least ten light aircraft converted into reusable bomber drones, indicating a new advance in the adaptation of civilian equipment for military use.
According to a report by Defence Blog, the photos were shared by Serhii Sternenko, an adviser to the Ukrainian defense minister, who described the scene as “historic.”
The aircraft were modified for remote operation and appear to be equipped with Soviet-made bombs. Unlike kamikaze drones, these systems are designed to return to base after completing their missions, allowing them to carry out multiple operations while reducing deployment costs.
According to the publication, the squadron may have been used in Ukraine’s first mass attack of this kind. The initiative demonstrates the country’s growing ability to develop low-cost solutions to expand its long-range strike capabilities through improvised platforms and domestic production.
In recent months, Kyiv has accelerated the development of different categories of drones, including FPV models, reusable bombers, and long-range aircraft, which have come to play a central role in operations against Russian military and logistical targets.
