Chevrolet has confirmed that the 2027 Corvette Stingray officially reached 322 km/h (200 mph) during top-speed testing, making it, according to the automaker, the most affordable new car on the market capable of achieving that level of performance.

The performance comes from the new naturally aspirated 6.7-liter LS6 V8 engine, producing 535 horsepower and 705 Nm of torque. In addition to its top speed, the model accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in about 2.8 seconds and completes the quarter mile in approximately 11 seconds.

According to Chevrolet, the speed was recorded using the Stingray 1LT version without the optional Z51 package. Although the package improves cornering performance thanks to increased aerodynamic downforce, it also creates more drag and reduces the vehicle’s top speed.

“This record truly demonstrates the strength of the LS6, an engine we developed to carve out a unique place within the Corvette lineup,” said Mike Kociba, Assistant Chief Small Block Engineer at Chevrolet.

With this milestone, the new Stingray now occupies a space once reserved for far more expensive supercars, delivering 322 km/h (200 mph) performance for less than US$75,000, according to Car and Driver magazine.
