Germany has received the first two Airbus H145M helicopters in the LKH SOF (Light Combat Helicopter – Special Operations Forces) configuration, developed to support special operations forces.
The aircraft represent the latest D3 version of the model, equipped with a five-blade main rotor that increases payload capacity, reduces vibration, and improves performance compared to previous variants.

According to the Ukrainian outlet Militarnyi, citing information from the German publication Hartpunkt, the helicopters are part of a batch of five aircraft assigned to Helicopter Squadron 64 of the German Air Force, which supports special operations missions.
The aircraft will be used for troop infiltration and extraction, reconnaissance, medical evacuation, and tactical support, with the ability to operate in both land and maritime environments.
The new H145M helicopters feature a self-protection suite, electro-optical sensors, day-and-night operational capability, and fast-rope systems for rapid insertion of special operations personnel.

The model can also be equipped with the modular HForce weapons system, enabling the integration of machine guns, rockets, and guided missiles according to mission requirements.
The delivery is part of Germany’s helicopter fleet modernization program. In December 2023, the country ordered up to 82 H145M helicopters, including 62 initially contracted aircraft and an option for 20 additional units, which was later exercised.

The model will also gradually replace part of the Tiger attack helicopter fleet as well as older training platforms operated by the Bundeswehr.
