Russia has reinforced its air defense capabilities in the Dobropillia region with the deployment of the rare 2K22M1 Tunguska-M1 system, a modernized version of the well-known anti-aircraft platform equipped with missiles and cannons.

According to information released by the Russian channel Ramzai, the equipment is operating with the 27th Guards Motor Rifle Division.

The Tunguska-M1 has received a series of improvements over the years, including the integration of a new electro-optical module, upgrades to its radar sensors, and the addition of extra armor to increase the protection of the vehicles in combat. The modernization program began in the 1990s, culminating in the entry into service of the current variant in 2003.

Among the features that distinguish the model is an oval air surveillance radar antenna installed at the rear of the turret. In addition, the system includes thermal imaging resources and television cameras capable of automatically tracking targets, expanding its effectiveness under different operational conditions.

The improvements also extended to the digital data processing system, allowing aerial threats to be detected at distances of up to 20 kilometers and at altitudes of up to 5 kilometers. Full automation of missile guidance and real-time connection with command posts enable the automatic distribution of targets among air defense units, increasing coordination and operational effectiveness.
