Mercedes-AMG has revealed the updated versions of the GLE 63 S and GLS 63, keeping a feature that is becoming increasingly rare in the market: a large-displacement V8 engine.
According to the portal Motor1, the two SUVs arrive for the 2027 model year with visual changes, more onboard technology, and a new generation of the electrified 4.0-liter biturbo V8 engine.
The main highlight is under the hood. Both use the new M177 EVO, a 4.0-liter biturbo V8 that delivers 603 hp and 850 Nm of torque.
The engine received several updates, including new turbochargers, a redesigned intake, a revised injection system and, most notably, a flat-plane crankshaft, a solution normally associated with supercars that helps reduce rotating masses, improving throttle response.

The setup is complemented by a 48-volt mild hybrid system with the new ISG 2.0 integrated starter-generator, capable of temporarily providing up to 23 extra hp and an additional 205 Nm of torque at low revs. According to AMG, the goal is not to turn the SUVs into conventional hybrids, but to make responses more immediate and improve efficiency.
Performance remains impressive for vehicles of this size. The GLE 63 S accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.6 seconds, while the larger GLS 63 completes the same sprint in 3.9 seconds. Both have an electronically limited top speed of 280 km/h.

The nine-speed AMG Speedshift automatic transmission works together with the variable all-wheel-drive system AMG Performance 4MATIC+ and an electronic limited-slip rear differential.
The AMG Ride Control+ air suspension comes as standard and now works together with the AMG Active Ride Control system, which monitors road conditions up to a thousand times per second to reduce body roll.
Visually, the changes were relatively discreet. The models received a new AMG grille, larger air intakes to improve V8 cooling, redesigned light signatures and new wheel options, which can reach 23 inches on the GLS 63.

Inside the cabin, the highlight is the integration of the MB.OS operating system, which displays real-time performance information such as torque distribution, G-forces and engine data.
For now, Mercedes-AMG has not yet released pricing information for the new GLE 63 S and GLS 63. More details are expected to be revealed in the coming months, as the brand approaches the start of sales in major markets.
