Russian group Kalashnikov has unveiled for the first time the Skat-220, a new fixed-wing civil drone developed for monitoring, security, and infrastructure inspection missions.

The new drone has attracted attention due to its advertised top speed of up to 160 km/h, a figure that, according to the company, places it among the fastest in its class. The Skat-220 was developed from the Skat-350M, but features more compact dimensions: its wingspan has been reduced to 2.2 meters, while its weight has been lowered to 12 kg, factors that contributed to its improved performance.

Powered by an electric motor, the drone can remain airborne for more than 150 minutes. It is launched via catapult and lands using a parachute recovery system, a solution designed for operations in areas where conventional runways are unavailable.

According to Kalashnikov, the new model also retains the reliability and wear-resistance characteristics inherited from its “older sibling,” the Skat-350M. The platform is intended to serve a variety of civilian sectors, including security, environmental protection, agriculture, monitoring of energy facilities, transportation infrastructure, and power transmission lines.

The Skat-220 was unveiled at the International Security Forum, held under the auspices of Russia’s Security Council in the Moscow region. The event brought together companies and officials connected to the security and technology sectors.
