The Bundeswehr has ordered more than 2,000 military logistics transport trucks from Rheinmetall in a new order valued at €1.015 billion.
The contract covers unprotected logistics vehicles in UTF 4×4, 6×6 and 8×8 configurations, intended to expand the mobility and supply capacity of Germany’s Armed Forces.
According to Rheinmetall, the order is part of the framework agreement signed in 2024, which provides for the supply of up to 6,500 vehicles. The new order will be booked in the second quarter of 2026, with deliveries expected to begin in the first half of this year.
Most of the trucks are expected to be delivered by the end of 2026, strengthening Germany’s logistics fleet at a time of increased focus on national defence and NATO security commitments.

Billion-euro contract includes 4×4, 6×6 and 8×8 versions
The order includes approximately 1,000 8×8 vehicles, as well as around 1,000 units in the 4×4 and 6×6 versions. The variants have different payload capacities, including 3.5-tonne, 5-tonne and 15-tonne models.
The UTF family, short for the German term Ungeschützte Transportfahrzeuge, or unprotected transport vehicles, is considered the logistical backbone of the Bundeswehr. These trucks are used to transport supplies, equipment and operational support in different types of missions.
The vehicles will be produced by Rheinmetall MAN Military Vehicles GmbH, known as RMMV, a joint venture specialising in military trucks and tactical mobility systems.
HX: the basis of the new military trucks
The trucks on order are based on the HX family, developed specifically to meet military requirements. The line is known for its robustness, high off-road mobility and ability to operate in severe weather conditions.
According to Rheinmetall, the standardisation of the HX family provides important gains in training, operation and maintenance. This reduces logistical complexity and makes it easier for troops to use the vehicles on a large scale.
Christoph Müller, CEO and chairman of the board of RMMV, said the company’s unprotected and protected vehicles are already in service in several countries and have demonstrated reliability in extreme environments.
With the new €1.015 billion order, Rheinmetall reinforces its position as one of the Bundeswehr’s main suppliers in the military mobility sector, while Germany accelerates investments in operational readiness and allied defence.
