The Israeli Air Force received its first Boeing KC-46 “Gideon” on Wednesday, an aerial refuelling and strategic transport aircraft that marks a new stage in the modernisation of the country’s military aviation.
The reception ceremony was held at Nevatim Air Base, under the leadership of the Chief of the General Staff of the Israel Defense Forces, Lieutenant General Eyal Zamir, and the Commander of the Israeli Air Force, Major General Omer Tishler.
The KC-46 “Gideon” landed at the base and was incorporated into the IAF’s new refuelling squadron, inaugurated last week. The aircraft is the first of a total of six units acquired through the Israel Ministry of Defense procurement delegation in the United States.

According to the Israel Defense Forces, the arrival of the new aircraft is part of a broad campaign to expand the country’s military capabilities. The KC-46 increases the autonomy of fighter jets on long-range missions, allowing greater time in the air and strengthening the ability to operate across multiple theatres.
In addition to aerial refuelling, the aircraft also offers cargo, personnel and logistical support transport capabilities, making it a multimission platform. For the IAF, the new model represents a major leap compared with older refuelling aircraft, especially in long-distance operations.

During the ceremony, the Chief of the General Staff, Lieutenant General Eyal Zamir, said the arrival of the “Gideon” symbolises the beginning of a new phase for the Israeli Air Force. He highlighted that the aircraft is the result of long-term planning, industrial cooperation and operational preparation.
The Commander of the Israeli Air Force, Major General Omer Tishler, said the new aircraft adds “more fuel, more cargo, more distance and more possibilities” to the IAF’s strategic capabilities. According to him, air power remains a central tool for expanding the operational reach of Israeli forces.
Nevatim Air Base, where the KC-46 was received, already hosts other strategic platforms of Israeli aviation. The base commander highlighted that incorporating an aircraft of this size during a period of intense operations represents a logistical and operational challenge, but also a historic milestone for the force.
With the arrival of the first KC-46 “Gideon”, Israel begins the renewal of its aerial refuelling fleet, considered essential for long-range missions, fighter support, strategic transport and combined operations on different fronts.
